Sailing the Helena

Price: €65. This includes bus transport to and from Rotterdam, the sailing trip, coffee/tea and cake, and a Sailor’s Lunch (soup, luxury sandwiches, dessert). Any additional drinks can be purchased on board at your own expense.

The programme

09:00 – Departure by bus from the TU Delft Aula.

10:00 – In the historic Leuvehaven, in the heart of Rotterdam, we will be welcomed with coffee, tea and “Helena” cake. Once everyone is on board, the skipper will tell about the remarkable history of Europe’s oldest inland shipping vessel, safety on board, and the plans for the sailing trip.

10:30 – Cast off! Everyone is warmly invited to help hoist the sails and take a turn at the helm. Of course, you can also simply relax on deck and enjoy the surroundings. There is plenty to see along the way: first leaving the city, passing numerous bridges and shipyards, heading toward the world-famous windmills of Kinderdijk.

12:30 – The ship’s cook will serve a delicious Sailor’s Lunch.

15:30 – The Helena will dock again in the Leuvehaven after a pleasant afternoon under sail. The bus will then take us back to Delft.
